Cashmere Pubic Library talk

Local librarians Lisa and Leah in Cashmere, WA have enthsiastically scheduled a talk about Open Borders, 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23rd. I’ll be reading from my memoir and talking about the ways in which people in eastern Washington’s central Valley responded to the threat of nuclear destruction at the height of the Cold War, 1982-85.

In a time when war seemed just moments away, ordinary citizens were transformed into agents of peace. Meet Author Betsy Bell, who wrote “Open Borders, A Personal Story of Love, Loss and Anti-War Activism” 

Betsy will discuss the Anti-nuclear weapons movement (1980’s) which involved citizens in Cashmere and ways to take action against the proliferation of nuclear weapons today, drawing on the story of our state’s programs back in 1982-1985. She will also explore the struggle of women to find their independence and voices as wives and mothers.
